What if?

What if ?

É a primeira realização do conhecimento.

Always nice and shiny
Always fit for fight
Never show no weakness, always strive to look alright
Always keep my head high
No matter what's within
Never need nobody, never let nobody in
Try my best to adapt
I try to stand in line
Living up to what's expected
If I'm choosing "your" path
Will I do just fine?
Will I be someone respected?
Got a descent job
Got a shiny car
Living by the rule: possessions define who we are
Got a nice position
In my community
Still these thoughts of endless treadmills never leaves me be
Try my best to fit in
I try to stand in line
Living up to what's expected
If I'm choosing "your" path
Will I do just fine?
Will I be someone respected?
What if?
We're wasting what's important
Push aside the fact its more than meets the eye
What if?
Our actions are building bridges to the other side
A divine path
Try so hard to become
What you want me to be
I work so hard for all of you, for you to embrace me
Can I rule my future?
Or is it all destiny?
Am I a prisoner of expectations, am I free?
In a world of facades
And minds as hard as steel
Who can know whose false, and what's real?
Sometimes I'm dreaming
A dream where we all can be
Just what we feel like
Come walk, walk with me

My dreams were of many kinds but they were all manifestations of one state of mind.
I now dreamt of myself a Christ, making a sacrifice of myself, redeeming mankind, now a Luther breaking with old conventions, now a Nero steeped in the lust of flesh and of blood.
Now I saw myself in an inner hallucination the darling of crowds, applauded, parading through the (...), now the darling of women, tearing them from their homes, from their old homes, now the hatred of all but the darling of good, sacrificing myself for all.
Every thing read, everything heard, all seen - each idea from the outside, each (...), each event was the point of departure of a dream.
I carne from a circus and I laid at home daring to imagine myself a clown, with lights around me like an arc.
I saw soldiers pass in my mental eye and talk with a vision of myself as captain, leading, ordering, victorious.
I read of adventurers and from that moment fully became them.
I read of criminals and died of committing crimes till I grew frightened at my brain disorder.
According to what I saw to what I heard, to what I read, I lived in all classes, in all ages, in all times, passed through all times, tamed all difficulties, was martyr, victorious in more than a million ways.
But erotic, mystic, (...) - all these dreams were rivers tributary to a large me - nay rather they all were portions of a large me: the central point of all these dreams was the exaltation of personality.

Fernando Pessoa

“Pessoa por Conhecer - Textos para um Novo Mapa”

Thought was born blind, but Thought knows what is seeing.
Its careful touch, deciphering forms from shapes,
Still suggests form as aught whose proper being
Mere finding touch with erring darkness drapes.

Yet whence, except from guessed sight, does touch teach
That touch is but a close and empty sense?
How does more touch, self-uncontented, reach
For some truer sense's whole intelligence?

The thing once touched, if touch be now omitted,
Stands yet in memory real and outward known,
So the untouching memory of touch is fitted
With sense of a sense whereby far things are shown

So, by touch of untouching, wrongly aright,
Touch' thought of seeing sees not things but Sight.

Sometimes a life can feel like a living hell
A fight where you can't be
Saved by the bell
I had nothing left to give
I struggled until I lost my will to live
Though I knew, still
You were always there
In my search of solid ground
You will always care
This is what I found
Harmony I finally found my peace
And now I'm free
In someone who will be
There for me
Always and forever there for me
I found my harmony
In times of ignorance
In times of hate
You bring deliverance
Restoring my faith
When darkness comes over me
And blinds my eye
Your presence makes me see
You hold my head up high
You are always there
In our search of solid ground
You will always care
This is what I found
Harmony I finally found my peace
And now I'm free
In someone who will be
There for me
Always and forever there for me
I found my harmony

There was a land, which I suppose,
Where everyone had a crooked nose;

And the crooked nose that everyone had
In no manner did make him sad.

But in that land a man was born
Whose nose more straight and clean was worn;

And the men of that land with a public hate
Killed the man whose nose was straight.

Vanitate...

Vanitate ...

Vanitate...

Can you tell what kind of ego you have?
Do all humans have it?
Do we need it to survive and thrive in this world?
Are we born with it and how does it evolve over time?

If one pays attention – be it at work, school, college, out shopping, at the movies, on vacation — one will easily catch glimpses of the ego in others.
And, with practice and open-mindedness, it will be easy to recognize it in oneself.
The ego covers the spectrum from that of the all-puffed up, glaringly loud ones to those who cower and cringe from the lack of self-esteem and lots of varying versions in between them.

In ordinary terms, ego is defined as “one’s image of oneself”, “inflated feeling of pride in your superiority to others” and “consciousness of your own identity”.
One will instantly recognize it in feuding parties, phrases like, “Let me show him who calls the shots”; “No one will ever get away with double crossing me that way again!” or “So they think I am not good enough for their company, let me teach them a thing or two.”.
Then there are situations where one person “feels unworthy of another’s company because I am not pretty enough, not good enough”.
They tend to either express the speaker’s inflated feelings of superiority or deflated feelings of inferiority, and both stem from the egoic mind.

The truth is we become what we think. So, if we think we are superior to our fellow beings, we self-crown ourselves as such, but, that crown will easily be toppled when others see through the perceived façade that the mind wants to possess.
In the process, however, there might be untold damage that will arise before the truth emerges.

Everyone comes into this world as infants with clean slates. This slate then gets written on by one’s nurturers – usually parents to begin with, then family, relatives, friends, peers, etc throughout one’s formative years.
He or she is instilled with their values and principles, which have in turn been molded by their personal experiences – at the familial, cultural and societal levels. In turn, the value systems they hold, stem from beliefs and practices of their individual and collective, physical, thinking world.
